On Thursday, April 24th, at 6PM, the Movimento Trieste Libera – Free Trieste Movement holds a press conference in its headquarter, in Piazza della Borsa 7 (Trieste – Trst) to present to all members and supporters the upcoming “NO ELECTION DAY”.
This is an important action to support legality: once again Trieste Libera – Free Trieste organizes and promotes the active abstention from voting.
This means the citizens of Trieste should actually go to the polling stations on May 25th, but not to vote: instead, they should present a written report denouncing the illegality of both municipal elections organized by the Italian Republic (in the municipalities of Sgonico-Zgonik, Monrupino-Repen e San Dorligo – Dolina) and the elections summoned by the European Union in Zone A of the Free Territory of Trieste, as this state is independent from Italy and never joined the EU.
This statement is grounded on art. 21 of the Treaty of Peace of Paris, signed on February 10th, 1947, which had established the Free Territory of Trieste as a sovereign state. The FTT currently is under the temporary, civil administration of the government of the Italian Republic, not under the sovereignty of the Italian State. This means the Italian government must govern the FTT respecting all international laws, as disposed by the Memorandum of Understanding of London on October 5th, 1954.
This is why Italy has no right to impose its election, nor does the European Union, because the United Nations have never deliberated in favor of the FTT joining the EU. Also, the European Union was established in 1957 and it recognize the value of all the preexisting, international treaties, including the Treaty of Peace of Paris which established the Free Territory of Trieste at the end of WWII.
Last year, our NO ELECTION took place during both national Italian and Regional elections, receiving a very positive adhesion and leading 57 citizens of Trieste to impugn the act of indiction of Regional elections in front of the T.A.R. (Tribunale Amminsitrativo Regionale – Regional Administrative Court) demanding its annulment.
Starting with Thursday, April 24th, it will be possible to download a copy of the declaration to report the elections from this website, as well as the instructions to correctly use it at the polling station, all for free. Also, starting with next week, all the documents will be available at our reception and in our gazebos.
